Often when mothers to be come to us for a private gender scan, they are curious to know about how they can relax effectively during what is undoubtedly a different and sometimes difficult time, especially if you are pregnant with your first child. After all, depending on what you read online, you may be led down many different complicated avenues as to what is scientifically proven to boost the health of both yourself and your baby during this period.
With this in mind, we thought we would give you some simple tips as to what you can to do destress during pregnancy…
Listen to music on a walk
Pregnant or not, exercise releases endorphins that are scientifically proven to improve your mood and take your mind away from the stresses that pregnancy can bring. Now, it may feel like unwinding and exercise sounds quite contradicting, but who said it has to involve running up a hill?
A simple stroll around the block can be enough to get you back in the right frame of mind, keeping you active whilst allowing you to take in some well needed fresh air! Why not put on your headphones and listen to your favourite album or playlist, or catch up on a podcast you’ve been meaning to listen to? Time will soon fly by and you will be feeling calm again in no time at all.
Put your feet up!
As important as it is to exercise when pregnant and maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is just as important to relax if you are feeling any strain or pain on your body! So, if you are feeling exhausted after a long day, or just not in the mood to get out and about and prefer to spend a lazy day off, then a day on the couch or in bed could be just what you need! Pick up some of your favourite snacks and get changed into some of your comfiest clothes and binge watch your favourite series, or perhaps go through a Harry Potter marathon with your partner, if you have 20 hours to spare!
The changes that your body goes through is undoubtedly going to cause discomfort at times, so taking a day to yourself will allow this to pass so you can feel more energised and raring to go for tomorrow!
Talk to family or friends
During pregnancy, it is easy to feel low and lonely at various points, as your hormones are more out of control than usual. So, make sure you keep in contact with your loved ones regularly throughout! If you are feeling stressed out on a particular day, a quick phone call or visit from your family and friends will be sure to help you forget about those worries and cheer you up in no time.
You can always arrange a walk to a local park or a meal in a restaurant to give you something to look forward to in the coming days or weeks.
Have some you time
Most importantly, you should look to keep up doing the things you enjoy during your pregnancy period. If you enjoy intense sports, then this may be a little harder than usual, but take every opportunity you can to enjoy some you time. Pregnancy may be a nice break from the fast-paced life you normally live, so make the most of it.
When the little one arrives, we can guarantee you that you won’t be afforded the same amount of relaxation time than you are when pregnant!
