As your body goes through the many changes that being pregnant entails, it is important to take note of everything you do throughout the day. You have to remember that you are not just looking after yourself during this period, but your day to day activities also have a direct impact on the health of your unborn child inside you! This is why there are some things that you should avoid during pregnancy in order to maintain the best possible development for your child so they can live a healthy life once they are born.
We here at Hello Baby thought we would share a few with you…
Caffeine overload!
You may not feel the negative effects of caffeine during your pregnancy, in fact, it may even give you the boost of energy you need when you are inevitably going to fee tired and drained. However, caffeine will have a huge effect on the health of the little one growing inside you, without you even knowing it! Remember that your baby’s metabolism is far less than yours, so the caffeine that it takes from your intake might have an effect on the development of your baby.
A risk that isn’t worth taking in our book!
Watch your temperature
It is also recommended that you try to avoid a sharp rise in body temperature when possible. This might mean deciding against going on holiday to a hot country during your pregnancy, even during your first trimester. In fact, an elevation in body temperature during this period can lead to certain defects.
With this in mind, we also recommend that you avoid the hot tub if you are looking on booking a romantic night away with your significant other. Unfortunately, this can raise your body temperature quite drastically. We recommend a warm bath as a way of relaxing instead.
Avoid smoking environments at all costs
It is common knowledge that smoking during pregnancy is likely to cause health complications for both you and your baby in the future, so we at Hello Baby recommend you avoid this at all costs.
But did you know that second hand smoke is nearly as bad for you and your baby? If you have a partner or member of your household that smokes, perhaps this could be the time that they try to quit for good, for the sake of both you and your unborn child!
Try to keep active, but not too much!
Finding the fine line between being proactive and overdoing yourself is tough, we understand that. However, if you find yourself standing up for too long – or indeed sitting down for that matter – then you are placing strain on your veins and ankles, causing swelling and problems with bloody circulation.
To tackle this, you should look to be on the move regularly, even if this is a walk around the block. But you should also look to take regular breaks and put your feet up if you feel like you’ve been on your feet for too long. It is easy to become tired and out of breath if you are pregnant!
